Question #2

How big are black holes...?

Scientists have been able to tell how big a black hole is. They have effectively measured a black hole and it has the mass of 3 billion suns. That mass is equal to about 300 million kilometers. Thats a big black hole. But black holes vary in size there not always the same. The smallest is the micro or "mini" black hole.

  1. A black hole can be any size. They say that the biggest black hole is a billion of our suns. Stars can turn into black holes.

  2. Around a black hole there is an undetectable surface which marks the point of no return, called an event horizon. It is called "black" because it absorbs all the light that hits it, reflecting nothing, just like a perfect black body in thermodynamics.

  3. A black hole can suck up our whole spiral galaxy. That is ALOT of space!! But how do scientist know EXACTLY how big it is when we havnt explored it?
